Linton Park II v Meopham II

Saturday 13 July 2013

Linton Park II won by 7 runs

Meopham won the toss and invited Linton Park to bat. The home side suffered few alarms, the opening pair built a fine partnership of 92 before Dave Fuller removed Wright through a catch in the deep by Hugh Bryant.
At the half way stage Linton Park were on 99-1 and looked well set to post a 200+ total. But wickets started to fall and the run rate slowed. Darren Deeks bowled an excellent spell of 10 overs taking 1-20, and was ably supported by veteran campaigner Tony Thatcher who bowled an equally excellent 7 overs taking 4-15. Opener Rawson top scored with 70. Miles Tucker (2-38) and Dave Fuller (1-43) both bowled well in the blistering heat. Meopham bowled 20 wides which was ultimately to prove costly.

Meopham suffered the loss of Darren Deeks at 22, but built a good platform to chase victory through a partnership of 61 between George Tompkins (26) and Jack Dickety (29). Momentum was lost in the middle 15 overs though and 85 was needed from the last 15 overs. A half fit Mick Clark entered the fray and hit a valiant 43 not out as Meopham chased victory. James Innes (26) played a mature innings as he and Clark added 54 for the 5th wicket. With 16 needed from the final two overs the game was in the balance but Knowler bowled a tight penultimate over conceding one run which proved the turning point.

Despite the defeat, Meopham moved 17 points clear at the top of the table having played one game more than nearest rivals Marden.

Linton Park 11 points, Meopham 4 points.
