Sat 2nd XI match report

Monday 29th July 2013

Match report, Marden II v Meopham II , Saturday 27 July

Meopham II 123-1 (15 pts) beat Marden II 174-7 (0 pts) by 9 wickets

Meopham destroyed a weakened second placed Marden by 9 wickets. Meopham won the toss and invited Marden to bat on a flat wicket with a fast outfield. Marden got off to a flier and openers Burdge and skipper Watts put on 69 for the first wicket in 14 overs. Once the first wicket fell though, wickets tumbled rapidly through a mix of excellent bowling and fielding from the visitors, Marden’s cause was not helped by some kamikaze running.

Richard Saunders bowled superbly, without much luck, and finished with 1-26 from his 8 overs. The middle order was destroyed by Miles Tucker (3-18) and veteran slow bowler Tony Thatcher (3-21), and there were three run outs from Tucker, Ashley Wiltshire and Richard Boot. Mick Clark took a fine catch and a stumping.

The total of 119 was never going to be enough to contain a strong Meopham batting line up, and after the early loss of Darren Deeks, opener Gary Howarth (58 not out) and Mick Clark (51 not out) raced Meopham home to victory with a partnership of 110 in 16 overs.

Meopham moved 46 points clear of Marden at the top of division 3.
