Meopham II v Betsham

Saturday 10 August 2013

Meopham II (13 points) beat Betsham (2 points) by 63 runs

Meopham won the toss and decided to bat. After the loss of two early wickets, a recovery was built by Mick Clark and George Tompkins (28) who guided the hosts to 92 before Tompkins fell. Meopham suffered a mini middle order collapse, but Clark carried on in top form before falling for a superb 82 runs including 12 fours and 3 sixes. Youngsters Dan Plumb (21 not out) and Miles Tucker with 36 off 22 balls took the total to 229 all out in the 43rd over.

The Betsham line up included Lewis Skidmore and Hilton Bayayi, each of whom had scored three league centuries this season. But Skidmore fell cheaply to Harry Tompkins and Bayayi was tied down for long spells by slow bowlers Dan Plumb (1-28) and Tony Thatcher (1-38) before holing out to cover when trying to push the score along. The rest of the line up offered little resistance, due to the whole bowling attack, excellent fielding and some fine catches. Richard Saunders took 2-34, Miles Tucker 2-25 and Harry Tompkins a career league best of 3-26.

Meopham need only 2 points from their remaining three games to secure the division 3 league title.
